Have a safe and fun-filled Halloween

2023-10-27 12:35 PDT

Surrey RCMP is sharing some safety reminders with the community to ensure Halloween celebrations remain safe and fun for everyone.

Surrey RCMP regularly receives an overwhelming number of noise complaints resulting from the use of fireworks. Additional officers with the Surrey RCMP and the City of Surrey Bylaw Enforcement Team will be working extra patrols to help ensure public safety.

As per City bylaws, fireworks/firecrackers are not permitted to be sold, purchased, or displayed in Surrey. Fireworks are not permitted to be used in Surrey without a permit granted by the Surrey Fire Service Fire Prevention Branch. Go to the City of Surrey website to learn how to obtain Fireworks Permits and additional information on Fireworks Bylaws. Those caught selling or setting off fireworks are subject to fines and seizure of the fireworks.

If you have concerns regarding the misuse of fireworks in your neighborhood, contact Surrey Bylaws at 604-591-4370 (operating until midnight on Oct 31). Please do not use 911 for fireworks related concerns, 911 is reserved for emergencies only.

We want to ensure the safety of everyone, so we are reminding pedestrians to use marked crosswalks, wear visible reflective clothing and ensure that drivers see you before you cross the street. The drivers must use extra care when reversing out of driveways and at intersections.

We encourage you to discuss safety tips with your family members especially kids who are heading out to trick or treat such as:

Surrey RCMP wishes everyone in the community a safe and happy Halloween, says Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha Media Relations Officer Surrey RCMP.
