The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 321 calls for service from Friday Oct. 4, to 9 a.m. on Monday Oct. 7, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Cyclist struck on Tranquille

Police were called to the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Tranquille Road this weekend for a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist.

According to the report received on Friday Oct. 4, 2024, around 1:35 p.m., a person was riding a bike on the sidewalk, without a helmet on, and allegedly while impaired by drugs, when he rode through the intersection and was struck by a vehicle turning right, northbound onto Tranquille.

The person was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Anyone with information that may be related to this incident is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-33115.

Weapons report

Police responded to the area of Royal Avenue on Friday afternoon for a report involving what appeared to be a firearm.

On Oct. 4, 2024, around 3:35 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 400-block of Royal Avenue where a person allegedly pointed a pistol at a group of people, then left on foot down an alleyway, before getting into a dark SUV. The parties involved were known to each other.

Officers conducted patrols as part of the investigation, but the suspect was not located. Anyone with information that may be related is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-33133.

Weapons possession, breach

Showing up at the courthouse with brass knuckles saw a man taken into custody by Kamloops RCMP frontline officers.

On Friday Oct. 4, 2024, around 4:10 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received a request to assist sheriffs with a man they had arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon. Police checks revealed the suspect was also breaching a mandatory prohibition order.

He was held in custody by police for a bail hearing, during which time he was released by the courts with an appearance date scheduled for the following week.

Motel disturbance: man arrested

Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a Valleyview motel on Saturday, where a man was yelling and refusing to leave.

On Oct. 5, 2024, around 2:40 p.m., police were called to an address on the 1900-block of the Trans Canada Highway East, for a report of an intoxicated man who was allegedly threatening nearby residents and accusing them of stealing.

He was arrested and placed inside a police vehicle, where he continued yelling and began kicking its interior. The man was held in cells to sober up safely and for assessment by the Integrated Crisis Response Team.

Sexual assault

A man was arrested for sexual assault following a report to police Sunday.

On Oct. 6, 2024, around 4 a.m., Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers were called to a report of a sexual assault involving parties known to each other, at a motel on the 600-block of Columbia Street West.

A suspect was arrested as part of the investigation. He was released with a court date and conditions; charge recommendations are anticipated.
