The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 372 calls for service from Friday Sept. 27, to 9 a.m. on Monday Sept. 30, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Knives, machetes, and drugs seized

2024-32576

A cyclist wearing a backpack with two machetes sticking out of it caught the attention of a police officer Sunday afternoon.

On Sept. 29, 2024, around 1 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officer was patrolling the area of McGowan Avenue and Aspen Street when he observed a man riding a bike without a helmet, while in possession of weapons. The officer arrested the man and located machetes, four knives, and suspected fentanyl and meth as part of the investigation.

The suspect was issued a ticket for cycling without wearing a helmet under the Motor Vehicle Act. The items were seized for destruction.

Pedestrian struck by vehicle

Police and ambulance were called to the North Shore Friday night for a collision involving a youth and a motor vehicle.

On Sept. 27, 2024, around 8:45 p.m., police attended the area of Fortune Drive just south of Leigh Road, where a youth crossing the street had been struck by a northbound vehicle. The youth was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Weapons report

Multiple police officers responded to a gas station on the 200-block of Tranquille Road Friday night for a report involving a suspected firearm.

On Sept. 27, 2024, around 10:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the location where a man driving a red Mazda pickup truck allegedly pointed a firearm at a person known to him. Police conducted patrols, but were unable to locate the suspect. A safety plan was discussed with the victim.

Impaired driving collision

A woman lost her license for 90 days after driving through a series of properties while impaired.

On Sunday Sept. 29, 2024, around 1:30 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to Happyvale Avenue, where a woman got into a truck and drove into a tree, through three fences and some garden planters.

As part of the investigation, police demanded a roadside breath sample, but the woman allegedly refused, which carries the same penalty as providing a sample that exceeds .08. She was arrested for impaired driving and lodged in cells to sober up safely. A man on scene was also arrested and lodged in cells for obstruction.

The woman received a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Fatal collision

A man is sadly deceased following a single-vehicle collision reported in Aberdeen this weekend.

On Sunday Sept. 29, 2024, around 1:10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 1600-block of Aberdeen Drive near Crosshill Drive, where ambulance and Kamloops Fire Rescue were on scene at a fatal motorcycle collision involving a man in his 30s.
