Major Crime deployed to suspicious death in Mackenzie, BC

The BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit (ND MCU) has been deployed to a suspicious death of a person in Mackenzie, BC.

In the early morning hours of September 29, 2024, the Mackenzie RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residence located on 100 block of Centennial Drive in Mackenzie, BC. Frontline officers attended the scene and located a male deceased inside of the residence. 

ND MCU has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Mackenzie RCMP and the BC Coroners Service. The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area for the next several days while the investigation continues.
The death appears to be an isolated incident and investigators do not believe there is any potential danger to the public.

On October 1, 2024, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of Second-Degree Murder against Drake Matthew Kerr of Mackenzie, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued as a result.

The North District Major Crime Unit is looking to speak with anyone who may have any information relating to the incident or CCTV in the area. Further anyone with information on the whereabouts of Drake Matthew Kerr is asked to contact Mackenzie RCMP at 250-997-3288.
