BCHP – Smithers seize third firearm in the North

On February 25, 2024, a BC Highway Patrol officer, in Smithers, seized a firearm and ammunition at a traffic stop making this the third firearm seized by BCHP in the North this past month. At 6:10pm, the officer conducted a traffic stop with a pickup truck for speeding and vehicle defects. The driver and passengers for quickly arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking.
During the investigation, police seized the following items:
- 40 grams of drugs suspected to be fentanyl and cocaine
- thousands of dollars in Canadian currency
- a rifle and ammunition.
