Statement from Officer in Charge Brian Edwards- homicide

Surrey

2023-06-19 16:15 PDT

Surrey RCMP is working closely with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team to advance this investigation.

Last night’s homicide was a brazen act of violence outside a place of worship. Many community members were present following evening prayers at the Gurdwara.

This was a shocking and very public act of violence against a well-known community member and Gurdwara president.

Homicide investigations follow the evidence to piece together what happened, and why.

Community assistance is key to helping police solve crimes like this recent homicide. The police cannot do it alone. We appreciate all those who have spoken to police and ask others who have yet to provide their statement to contact IHIT investigators. With the community’s help, we will advance this investigation.

In the coming days our priority will be to provide any assistance to IHIT, to offer outreach and victim services support to community members impacted by this homicide.

This is a difficult time for the community, and in particular, for those who were at the Gurdwara last night. Our Victim Services are available to offer resources and support to those who need it.
